End of living, beginning of survival

As we spend our days in this hectic world, the youth of today have long forgotten their duties towards the nation. The incidents that have been taking place in our localities, themselves, are the manifestations due to the aggressive attitude of the irresponsible youth. The society, itself, has now been a helpless victim running on the wheels of the harangues of political parties and blackmoney holders.

The main objective of these culprits, however, is to inject the minds of our youth with the venom of communalism and violence. Whatever may the intention of these self-proclaimed 'saviors' of the society be, it all ends up in the destruction of the potential and caliber of our youth. They who are supposed to be the responsible citizens of the future, are thus destroyed by all means. They are radically converted into beasts who turn out to be a curse for the harmony in the society.

One of the most dangerous attitude is the rising religious intolerance. Listening to the news of young men being stabbed and attacked in the name of religion has now become very common, indeed. There was once a time when people belonging to different sections and religions of the society, lived in complete harmony and peace. Such a society, in today's concepts, is very near to being Utopian. Nobody dreams for an ultimate perfectibility of the world, though. But those who are screwed into beasts have already converted our nation into a graveyard. There is onething they must remember; the detrimental actions they take for fulfilling their greeds have had adverse affects on the lives of the innocent people- the so called 'vote banks'.

Nobody really thinks of how much a successful nation India can be if the youth are recognised as the valuable assests of the nation. They are more often seen as puppets under the hands of the powerful ones. They don't really realise that they are being used up as weapons by those who bank on the religion card. Going by the population census reports of 2001, 40% of the present Indian population are those below 16 years of age. There are many ways by which the present situation of our nation can be changed. Numerous modifications are made each year in the field of education. If the students are taught subjects that can arouse objects of patriotism and nationalism, alongwith academic subjects, a dramatic change can be seen in changing the attitude of the youth. Like the children are taught religious lessons, parents must also take up the responsibility of instilling the principles of nationalism and religious tolerance in the child. Afterall, the fact that all religions convey the common message of peace, should not be forgotten.

As a new generation grows , may the Almighty help us to dream of a beautiful India, where we are Indians- no matter a Muslim or a Hindu, a Christian or a Sikh. Let this be the end of survival and the beginning of living'.
